BEIRUT, (PIC)– The Thabit organization for the right of return in Lebanon has welcomed statements by Lebanese president Gen. Michel Suleiman on Thursday confirming the Palestinian refugees’ right of return.

The president declared that the UN has recognized the “inalienable” right as a basic human right and reiterated refusal to resettle the refugees in Lebanon.

Thabit said in a statement released Friday that the demand for the civil and social rights of the refugees comes from the need to provide them with a dignified life until they return to their homeland. That confirms the rejection of resettlement and is in line with the Lebanese constitution that rejects the resettlement of those refugees.

The group emphasized the need to highlight the achievements made on Nakba Day this year, saying that those who wish to resettle would not have sacrificed casualties for the sake of the right of return.

It stressed that the right does not expire with the progression of time, and that it is the individual and collective right of the refugees, and that no one is entitled to relinquish or neglect it.
