DAMASCUS, (PIC)– Ezzat al-Resheq, member of the Hamas Political Bureau, expressed appreciation for the Egyptian government’s decision to permanently open the Rafah border crossing with the Gaza Strip, and said that it was “a decision that reflects the spirit of the Egyptian revolution and the return of Egypt to play its [regional] role”.

In a message he posted on his Twitter page Resheq commented on the news of the opening of the border crossing by Egypt saying: “The Egyptian decision to open the Rafah crossing permanently is a brave initiative and a new success for the Egyptian revolution after its success in effecting the Palestinian reconciliation”.

He added that the opening of the border crossing was the fulfilment of a promise made by the Egyptian leadership and an a practical expression that Egypt has started its journey of Egypt to return to its leading position in the region.

On the issue of the future Palestinian Prime Minister, Resheq said that Hamas does not agree to Salam Fayyad taking this position, adding that his name was not in the list of four being discussed by Fatah and Hamas, adding that no one has the right to impose a certain person on the Palestinian people as a Prime Minister.

He also said that Hamas supports a candidate who is truly independent of Hamas, Fatah and any other Palestinian faction.
