A young Palestinian has been wounded after Israeli troops opened fire on peaceful protesters in northern Gaza Strip, medical sources say.

The Palestinian was injured in Beit Hanoun near Erez crossing on Tuesday, Ma’an news agency reported.

Eyewitnesses identified the injured as Muhammad Osama Kafarna, saying he was shot in his head and neck.

The shooting came after a group of locals and international activists marched on the so-called Israeli buffer zone to protest the occupation of their land.

The Israeli army has established a 300-meter-wide buffer zone along the Gaza Strip, and fires at Palestinians or even non-Palestinian activists approaching the fence.

The Beit Hanoun-based Local Initiative, which organized the rally, demanded control over the hundreds of square kilometers of land along the buffer zone.
