Silwan, Jerusalem (SILWANIC) —
After more than a year of restoration work and development of the Umayyad Islamic palaces which are located by the north entrance to Silwan in Wadi Helwah. Work included the construction of steel bridges and a Stadium, and was designed to change the original scenery and appearance, thus rewriting the true story of the site; witch is directly related to al-Aqsa Mosque.
This process, Were Israeli authorities and settler organizations forge the history of archeological sites, linking them the biblical stories, is not the first of this kind
The opening ceremony was held in the presence of Nir Barkat and several functionaries from the Israeli Antiquities Authority additional public figures and dozens of students from Jewish schools from the area. Many excavation operations took place in tens of different locations in Silwan. These operations wore subsidized by Settler organizations fronted by the Israeli Antiquities Authority. The ultimate goal of the excavations is to gain control of as much privately owned Palestinian land and properties. Ruins are used as justification for conducting these actions. Moreover, within the excavation actions the Israeli Authority doesn’t take into consideration the negative side effects of these operations have on the daily lives of silwan people and the damages they cause transportation, houses and vital infrastructure.
