RAMALLAH, (PIC)– An Israeli military court on Wednesday transferred Palestinian lawmaker from Hamas Abdulrahman Zeidan to administrative detention for six months.
The family of Zeidan told the Palestinian information center (PIC) that Salem court in the northern West Bank sentenced MP Zeidan to six months in administrative detention.
The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) kidnapped MP Zeidan from his home in Deir Ghusun village, northeast of Tulkarem, earlier last month and locked him in Megiddo jail.
The same Israeli court also ordered on the same day the administrative detention of senior Hamas official Nazih Abu Aoun and his son-in-law Ahmed Malaysha for six months.
Abu Aoun and his son-in-law were kidnapped a few days ago from their home and taken to Megiddo prison.
Israel’s use of administrative detention blatantly violates international law’s restrictions imposed on this kind of detention. It is carried out under the thick cover of privilege, which denies detainees the possibility of mounting a proper defense.
Over the years, Israel has administratively detained thousands of Palestinians for prolonged periods of time, without prosecuting them, without informing them of the charges against them, and without allowing them or their attorneys to study the evidence, making a mockery of the measures specified in international law to protect the right to liberty and due process, and the right of defendants to state their case.
