RAMALLAH, (PIC)– UNRWA has halted a number of its projects due to the lack of financing thus crippling services to 1.1 million refugees living in the Gaza Strip, a UN report said on Friday.

The weekly report for the UN office for coordinating humanitarian affairs (OCHA) said that UNRWA was forced to reduce grants to a number of programs as a result of a 50 million dollar shortage.

It said that UNRWA slashed by one third its budget in a project aimed at creating work opportunities for the youth over the past few weeks, adding that the program used to provide work opportunities for 3500 youth each month.

OCHA said that UNRWA was no longer capable of supporting the health, agriculture, and fishing sectors, and warned that if UNRWA did not get an additional 35 million dollars contribution it would be forced to lower humanitarian assistance and to halt the program of finding job opportunities for the youth by the first of October.
