Israeli police blocked a road with cars and maintained a steady presence as protestors marched through Jerusalem. One witness said the situation was tense, with protestors and counter-protestors coming into close contact.

About 50 Israeli police watched over the protestors at their final meeting point in Sheikh Jarrah.

Speeches were made in Hebrew and Arabic, said Israeli journalist Joseph Dana on Twitter. Overall the protest was relatively quite, said Dana.

Earlier, Protestors waved Palestinian flags and beat drums as they waited to begin the march. Passersby honked at the crowd and shouted insults.

The highly publicized march is in support of a two-state solution that would see a Palestinian state on pre-1967 borders with Israel.

The Israeli government has rejected peace talks based on the 1967 borders saying the lines are “indefensible.” The Palestinian leadership has said it will seek state recognition from the UN in September if Israel does not agree to peace talks based on the 1967 borders.

More updates are on the way from Jerusalem.
