PFB: Salah release a victory for Palestinians

LONDON, (PIC)– The release, on-bail,  of Raed Salah, the leader of the Islamic Movement in Israel, is the beginning of a victory for Salah and the Palestinians in England, said the Palestinian Forum in Britain (PFB), which hosted Salah in the country before he was arrested.

Salah entered the UK for a speaking tour but was arrested after the home secretariat placed a travel ban on him. It is still unclear when and why the ban was issued.

Zahir Beirawi, the PFB’s public relations official, said in a press statement on Saturday that the Salah case was “political, orchestrated by the Zionist lobby in the UK”.

He added that the next step was to appeal against the home secretary’s deportation decision, which was made on grounds of Salah’s alleged anti-Semitism and that his presence in England posed a “threat” to the British public.

Measures will be taken to release Salah on bail on Monday 18 July, Beirawi also said, adding that Salah along with his lawyers will decide whether to stay in Britain or to go back to Palestine when pursuing the deportation appeal.

Pro-Palestinian activists have been sitting in for days at the headquarters of the prime minister to protest Salah’s detention, a move they said was an attempt to silence his voice, which condemns Israel’s abuse of the Palestinians’ rights.

American activist Noam Chomsky also condemned the arrest in a prior statement, and he also praised Salah’s role in representing the Arabs.
