Bardawil: Al-Ahmed statement on Abbas endorses Hamas view

GAZA, (PIC)– Dr. Salah Al-Bardawil, a Hamas leader, said that recent statements by Azzam Al-Ahmed, the head of the Fatah negotiating team, proved Hamas’s viewpoint that Mahmoud Abbas’s insistence on Salam Fayyad as premier of the transitory government was foiling the reconciliation.

He told the PIC on Wednesday that Abbas, the PA chief and Fatah leader, was trying to impose his choice on Hamas and the Palestinian people.

Al-Ahmed and Fatah should now pressure Abbas to give up his insistence on Fayyad, Bardawil said, adding that the reconciliation agreement should be implemented without further delay to override the current stalemate. He said that Hamas was ready to sit with Fatah and discuss the matter away from dictates.

Al-Ahmed, in a statement to the London-based Al-Hayat newspaper, criticized Abbas for insisting on Fayyad, and lashed out at the latter’s economic policies.
