Murad Shteiwi, a spokesperson for the weekly rallies, explained how Israeli soldiers began firing “tear gas canisters” in all directions on Friday, Ma’an News Agency reported.
The main entrance of the village of Kafr Qaddum, in the northern West Bank, has been closed for almost nine years.
Meanwhile, a Dutch musical group visited Kafr Qaddum, home to some 3,500, and performed Palestinian music to the villagers in an act of solidarity.
After the Friday prayers, hundreds of locals together with the visiting foreigners rallied, when Israeli soldiers began firing the canisters. Apart from injuring several, many others choked on the tear gas thrown at them.
Israel fabricated its existence in 1948 during the Six-Day War against the Arab world, forcing 711,000 Palestinians to leave their homeland. Estimates made in 2008 put the number of the refugees at over 4.6 million.
In 1967, Tel Aviv went on to annex the Palestinian territories of the West Bank and East al-Quds (Jerusalem). The move is considered illegal under international laws.
