GAZA, (PIC)– Hamas politburo member Khalil al-Hayya has called seeking statehood with United Nations ”illusions that will not achieve anything that would serve the Palestinian cause”.

The statement came as Hayya, who also chairs the Hamas bloc on the Palestinian Legislative Council, welcomed a delegation from Malaysia at PLC headquarters in Gaza on Sunday.

”The Palestinians are still living under occupation, which can only be ended by resistance,” Hayya said.

”The Zionist enemy does not respect the Palestinians’ rights, relying on U.S. bias, European hypocrisy, and Arab weakness,” Hayya said, stressing that the Palestinians will fight the occupation by all legimate and available means.

Hayya also pointed out that the Palestinians at home and abroad have continued to suffer because of Israel’s policies regarding them.

He emphasized that political action upon which the Palestinian Liberation Organization has proceeded in negotiating with Israel has reached an impasse. He also pointed out that current trends show that Palestinian Authority lacks ”political horizons”.
