JENIN, (PIC)– An ailing Palestinian resistance commander has threatened to go on hunger strike if he continues to be isolated in the Israeli Ramle prison.
Despite an acute health condition, Yasser Amin Nazal, 46, a commander in the Al-Nasser Salah al-Din Brigades, the armed wing of the Palestinian coalition faction the Popular Resistance Committees, has been placed in isolation for the last 15 days under orders of Shin Bet, Israel’s internal intelligence agency.
Being in solitary confinement has caused Nazal’s health to take a turn for the worst, increasing the poison levels in his blood. He was hit with a bullet in the chest and lungs when he was arrested in 2004 and since then requires a respirator, which has not been provided for him in the prison. Subsequently, he was transferred to the Ramle prison hospital.
Serving a ten-year prison sentence, Nazal is a chief commander in Al-Nasser Salah al-Din Brigades and was wanted by Israel before his arrest.
Separately, Israel occupation forces arrested Wednesday evening two young men at the Hawara checkpoint south of the West Bank city of Nablus. One of the men had served five years in Israeli prisons.
The roadblocks have recently been increasingly used for targeting Palestinian commuters. The IOF has claimed the checkpoint has been evacuated, but its infrastructure remains, and it is often set up anew.
On Thursday morning, IOF troops raided several areas around Nablus without report of arrest or house raid.
The raided areas include North Oseira north of the city and area east of the city.
