Street shut down for Jewish holiday, severe congestion

Silwan, Jerusalem (SILWANIC) — Israeli forces closed off the northern entrance of Wadi Hilweh district of Silwan this evening, citing the anniversary of the destruction of the Second Temple of Jerusalem’s Old City.

Israeli officers blocked Palestinian vehicles from entering or exiting via Wadi Hilweh Street, causing severe congestion. One armed Israeli settler also attempted to direct traffic, threatening Palestinian drivers.

The closure was implemented as the daily fast for Ramadan ended, a peak time of traffic as many travel to the mosque to pray. Israeli forces allowed settlers a passage through the blockade, while forcing Palestinian drivers to wait
