JENIN, (PIC)– The UN Relief and Works agency for Palestine refugees has announced the closure of offices in Jenin and its refugee camp as of Friday after receiving threats to its staff.

UNRWA said in a statement that the closure would continue until the Palestinian Authority and local parties guarantee the safety of its employees and until verbal threats against them come to a halt.

It pointed out that suspension of work would include the offices of social services, relief, and creating jobs, in addition to the office of the director of the refugee camp.

UNRWA said it could not provide services under such threats, adding that is staffers were not safe in such an atmosphere.

The crisis between the popular committee in Jenin refugee camp and UNRWA escalated recently over differences on means of running the program of finding jobs for refugees, which recruit hundreds of them each month.
