OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)– Locals in Jerusalem’s Silwan district south of Al-Aqsa Mosque continued in clashes with Israeli police and border guards after officers from an undercover unit arrested a young resident.
Locals reported a Palestinian woman sustained a head injury during the clashes on Tuesday evening.
Youths threw Molotov cocktails at a border guard vehicle burning its hood. A large force of border guards then rushed to the area of incident in search of the thrower.
Also on Tuesday, U.S. right-wing broadcaster Glen Beck staged a rally at an archaeological site near Al-Aqsa Mosque in support of Israel.
Most of the thousand people who showed up were Americans. Among those to speak at the provocative event was Israeli Jerusalem mayor Nir Barakat.
Al-Aqsa Foundation had previously warned of the event, saying that Beck was known for anti-Muslim, anti-Palestinian views.
“The place where the rally was staged, and the timing (i.e. Ramadan) by such an extremist personality as Glenn Beck is no doubt blatant desecration of Al-Aqsa Mosque and violates the sentiments of Muslims,” a statement by Al-Aqsa Foundation said.
