GAZA, (PIC)– Prime Minister of the government in Gaza Ismail Haneyya and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas have confirmed that further action has been taken for the sake of Palestinian reconciliation, a statement from Haneyya’s office says.

This came after Haneyya phoned Abbas to mark Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

The statement, which was disseminated to the media, says that many important issues were discussed by the leaders of the mending Palestinian territories, issues that include seeking state recognition with the United Nations.

During a speech in Khan Younis marking Eid al-Fitr, Haneyya assured that reconciliation would fall through despite the slow pace.

He pointed out that, as a goodwill gesture, Fatah party members detained in the Gaza Strip over criminal and non-political backgrounds had been set free.

Separately, in a statement Hamas congratulated the Palestinians and Muslims on Eid al-Fitr, sending prayers that these days be of tolerance and reconciliation.
