Al-Khalil, (PIC)– It is bad enough for Palestinian families having to celebrate Eid under occupation, but for many families having to celebrate it without their loved ones is an added burden, especially that the occupation tore down thousands of Palestinian families through killing, imprisonment or expulsion.
The family of Um Hassan in al-Khalil have not gathered all around the dinner table for the past twenty years during Ramadan or Eid, as no Ramadan or Eid passed without having one of the family imprisoned or killed.
Um Hassan, the mother of two martyrs and seven captives in occupation jails and a tenth studying abroad said that the occupation forces detained five of her sons two weeks ago. Two of her sons are already serving prison terms; Iyad is serving a 13-year term and Mahmoud is serving a 20-year term.
In addition to the seven captives Um Hassan told aljazeera.net that two of her sons were killed by the occupation; Murad was killed in November 2002 and Ahmad in December 2002.
Her ninth son is studying at university abroad.
Um Hassan says, she prays for her sons’ safe return and believes that her suffering will compensated by Allah, adding that while she is not expecting to see any of her sons this Eid, she hopes that they will all be released by next Eid.
As well as families suffering because of the occupation, dozens of Palestinian families are suffering because their sons are imprisoned by the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank for political reasons.
