RAMALLAH, (PIC)– The Israeli Prison Service has launched a fresh offensive against Palestinian prisoners as the holy month of Ramadan comes to an end, a prisoners’ rights expert has reported.

Raafat Hamdouna said the coming days should see major developments inside the Israeli prisons as the prisoners prepare to respond to an onslaught of surprise searches, isolation decrees, fines, visitation restrictions, and other unjustified punitive measures.

Prisoners in the Israeli Nafha prison told the Prisoners’ Center for Studies that special units raided the Fatah party’s Room 40 of Sector 10 on Wednesday in an hours-long search.

In the wake of the search, NIS 3,000 (USD 838) were confiscated from the sector as well as all of the electrical appliances after a cell phone chip was found in the room. The prisoners were also prohibited from family visits and recreation for a month.

In a statement, PCS director Hamdouna called on the Red Cross and other rights groups supported by the Palestinian factions and media outlets to support the prisoners and pressure Israel in order to put an end to the increased violations inside its prisons.
