AL-KHALIL, (PIC)– Palestinian rights advocates will stage a sit-in at ibn Rushd circle, downtown Al-Khalil 1pm Thursday to protest the continued detention of political prisoners in the Palestinian Authority’s security prisons.
According to the latest agreements between Fatah and Hamas in Cairo, all political prisoners were slated to be released before the Eid al-Fitr holidays, marking the end of Ramadan, in the framework of a reconciliation deal uniting factions that ruled the split Palestinian territories.
Meanwhile, the security forces of the PA, ruled by the Fatah party, arrested over the past three days seven of Hamas’s supporters across the West Bank amid intense search raids.
Among those nabbed was Hamza Abul-Heija, son of Hamas leader Jamal Abul-Heija, currently held prisoner in the Israeli prisons.
Another of those arrested was Abdul-Adhim al-Natshe. He was violently taken in just days after he was released during Eid al-Fitr. During his release, security forces threatened to arrest him once again. Natshe refused to respond to summonses made against him two days ago.
