NAZARETH, (PIC)– The Israeli Cabinet approved Sunday the Prawer Report designed to resettle tens of thousands of Bedouins in the Negev desert to Israeli settlements.
As part of the plan, some 20,000 to 30,000 would be relocated to settlements recognized by the Israeli government, including Rahat, Khura, and Ksayfe.
The plan also provides recognition of Arab ownership of only 200,000 dunums (20,000 hectares) of land, while they actually own some 1.1 million of the 11 million dunums they owned before the Nakba, according to informed Palestinian sources.
According to the plan, the Israeli government would use the land owned by Bedouins for state interests while compensating the owners with no more than NIS 2,000 (USD 540) per dunum. However that figure does not include farmland. Such land would be compensated only after evacuation and the written signature of the owners to relinquish all rights to the land.
