Silwan, Jerusalem (SILWANIC) — Silwan Fatah secretary-general Adnan Ghaith has been returned to Ramallah by Israeli court order, with a new ban issued on his entering his home city of Jerusalem. A relative reported that Ghaith had been arrested on new, fabricated accusations. Ghaith had returned home just one day before, having completed the 8-month “exile” sentence placed on him by the Israeli military.

The Israeli Magistrates Court sentenced Ghaith to a new period of banishment, limited to the Silwan area this time as opposed to the whole of Jerusalem city, and a bail set at 3,000 NIS. Analysts state that the sentence illustrates that authorities’ interest in Palestinian activists’ presence inside Jerusalem is ingenuine, and this new sentence may have been passed purely to cause trouble for Ghaith on a personal level.
