BEIRUT, (PIC)– Senior Hamas politburo member Izzat al-Resheq has criticized de facto Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas’s speech at the UN General Assembly on Friday, accusing Abbas of committing a “sin” by conceding much of the Palestinian territories to the enemy.

Abbas gave an “emotional and positive” introduction explaining the Palestinians’ plights and history, but “2,000 rounds of talks is not worth a round of iron”, Resheq said in a tweet that followed Abbas’s speech on Friday.

“Despite (Israel’s) escalating crimes and aggression Abbas has refused to isolate Israel, as he said in his speech, whereas the free people of the world seek to isolate it; and despite admitting the failure of negotiations, Abbas insists on going back to them, holding fast to the political and diplomatic option after 20 years of failure. Also, Abbas repeated his known positions against resistance and limited it to peaceful protests and deprived our people of the right to resistance”.

Resheq added that Abbas “committed a sin by recognizing 80 percent of of Palestine to the enemy (Israel) and by denying our people the right to return when he talked about ‘an agreed upon solution’ [to the refugee problem]”.

Resheq went on to say that the Palestinians “deserve world recognition but believe that the real state will be imposed by their will, steadfastness, and resistance, and that it would be taken by force and not donated by anyone”.

Separately, a poll taken by the Palestinian Information Center found that a majority of 90 percent believe that Abbas’s step to seek full membership in the UN would bear overall negative effects on Palestinian cause.
