Lebanese Parliament Speaker Calls for Establishment of Palestine Support Fund

TEHRAN (FNA)- Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, who is in Tehran for the 5th International Conference in Support of the Palestinian Intifada, proposed establishment of a fund to provide a strong backup for the Palestinian people and their uprising against Israel.

“We demand that a fund be established under the management of a committee formed by this conference in order to provide a stronger support for Palestine,” Berri said on Saturday.

He added that another fund should be established for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, and asked the international organizations to render the necessary cooperation in this regard.

The Lebanese top legislator also stressed unity as the strongest weapon in the hands of the Palestinians, and stressed that special attention should be given to popular resistance in Palestine.

The 5th International Conference in Support of the Palestinian Intifada started work in Tehran today with Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei in attendance.

According to the secretary of the conference, parliamentary delegations from Qatar, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Indonesia, Kuwait, Paraguay, Zimbabwe, Zanzibar, Comoros, Malawi, Egypt, Oman, Ivory Coast, Mexico, Malaysia, Jordan, Kyrgyzstan, Cuba, Sudan, Bolivia, Caucasus, Hungary, Colombia, Tanzania, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Sierra Leone and Afghanistan are present in the meeting.
