Israeli police continue to detain citizens of the village of Tuba Zingerah in the Upper Galilee, Israel, who were arrested during demonstrations protesting the burning of the village mosque several days ago, the Palestinian News Agency (WAFA) reported.

The Israeli police raided the village last night and kidnapped five young men, making a total of 25 detainees to date. The detention period has been extended for varying periods, and it is expected that the police may continue it indefinitely, especially in light of the burning of the local council building in the village.

The Jewish head of the council, appointed by the Minister of the Interior, announced his resignation after being threatened by some citizens of the village. These residents accused him of stating that people of the village had burned the mosque, when in fact the police had arrested a settler on that charge .
