GAZA, (PIC)– The Palestinian ministry of prisoners in Gaza held the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) fully responsible for the life of detained Hamas leader Sheikh Jamal Abul Haija after his health suddenly and seriously deteriorated.

The ministry said in a statement that a lawyer managed to visit the Sheikh on Sunday in his isolation cell in Nafha desert prison and quoted him as saying that Abul Haija’s health was worsening after joining the hunger strike 13 days ago.

He added that the Sheikh could not stand on his feet without help, noting that the Israeli troops had stormed his cell after joining the strike and confiscated all his electric appliances and clothes.

The ministry said in its statement that Abul Haija, whose left hand is amputated, has been held in solitary confinement ever since his arrested in 2002, adding that the Sheikh, who suffers from numerous illnesses, is deprived of family visits since then.

For its part, the Gaza-based international campaign to release detained MPs in Israeli jails also held the IOA fully responsible for the life of MP Ahmed Saadat, whose health condition worsened as a result of joining the hunger strike.

It urged the world community to end its silence vis-à-vis the IOA ferocious campaign against Palestinian prisoners. 22 detained Palestinian MPs are on hunger strike along with hundreds of Palestinian prisoners.
