Hamas Releases Details on First Phase Of Swap Deal

Senior sources at the Hamas movement reported that the first stage of the mediated prisoners-swap deal with Israel will secure the release of most of the detainees who have been imprisoned by Israel since 25 years or more.

Khaled Mashal, head of the Hamas Political Bureau in Syria, stated that the total number of detainees who will be freed from Israeli prisons in return for the release of Israeli soldier, Gilad Shalit, includes the release of 1000 male detainees and all 27 female detainees.

The Hamas-affiliated Palestinian Information Center reported that the detainees who will be released and will be allowed back to their hometowns are distributed according to the following numbers; Total Number: 272

1. A total of 130 detainees from the Gaza Strip.
2. A total of 111 detainees from the West Bank.
3. A total of 6 detainees from the 1948 territories.
4. A total of 25 female detainees.

Also, 15 of the 45 detainees who are from Jerusalem will be released and will be allowed back home. The remaining 30 will be sent to Gaza or into forced exile.

As for detainees who were sentenced to at least one life-term, a total 310 male detainees and 5 female detainees, will be released, in addition to detainees sentenced to 20-25 years.

The deal will also secure the release of most of the detainees who have been imprisoned bu Israel since more than 25 years, this includes the following detainees;

1. Nael Al Barghouthi, Ramallah, imprisoned since 33 years.
2. Akram Mansour, Qalqilia, imprisoned since 32 years.
3. Ibrahim Jaber, Hebron, imprisoned since 29 years.
4. Othman Musleh, Qalqilia, imprisoned since 29 years.
5. Fakhri Al Barghouthi, Ramallah, implemented since 33 years.
6. Mohammad Abu Khousa, Gaza, implemented since 35 year.
7. Fuad Ar-Razim, Jerusalem, imprisoned since 30 years.

Fateh strongman, legislator Marwan Barghouthi, and Secretary General of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, Ahmad Saadat, will not be release as Israel strongly rejected their release, among dozens of other names of senior officials and fighters.

The second phase of the swap deal will secure the release of 550 detainees, and will be carried out in two months, Hamas sources told the Qatar-based Al Jazeera news agency. 40 detainees will be exiled out of Palestine, yet, the destination remains unclear.
