Al Qassam website – A prisoner exchange between Israel and Palestinian movement Hamas got underway early Tuesday as prisoners held in Israeli jails were taken from their cells in order to transfer them to Egypt and the West Bank, as part of a deal that will see the release of Israeli Forces soldier Gilad Shalit, who was abducted from his tank near Gaza borders in 2006, after five years in captivity.

Israel will release 450 prisoners and 27 female prisoners – 280 of whom were sentenced for life. Red Cross will ensure that the prisoners arrive at their destinations: Some will be allowed to return to their West Bank and Gaza Strip homes and 40 prisoners are to be expelled to Qatar and Turkey.
