GAZA CITY (Ma’an) — Militants involved in the kidnap of Gilad Shalit have dedicated the prisoner exchange deal to two men killed during his capture.

Israel released 477 prisoners on Tuesday and has agreed to release an additional 550 detainees in two months in exchange for Shalit, who was freed in a carefully choreographed swap.

The Army of Islam, Hamas’ military wing the al-Qassam Brigades and the an-Nasser Salah Addin Brigades, the military wing of the Popular Resistance Committees, issued a joint statement Tuesday “blessing” the deal.

Militants from the three factions kidnapped Shalit in June 2006 near the Gaza border.

“We hereby present to our people this historic accomplishment according to which 1050 male and female prisoners will be freed from the occupation’s jails.

“The deal included 450 prisoners who were sentenced to hundreds of years as well as 27 noble women who were forced to be jailed behind bars,” the factions said.

The groups dedicated the exchange deal to Hamid Rantisi and Muhammad Farwana, militants killed during Shalit’s capture, “as well as other Palestinian martyrs.”
