The Moroccan Gate bridge has been in disrepair for a number of years and was severely damaged by Israeli authorities in an attempt to demolish it in 2007. According to Palestinian official news wire Wafa, the municipality engineer in charge of the Western Wall said that t judicial proceedings might follow if the bridge is not collapsed on schedule.
Five months ago, the Israeli government gave permission to collapse the bridge and build an Israeli-planned replacement, but the police delayed the collapse for fear of demonstrations by Palestinians.
