Human rights groups have charged Israeli doctors with neglect in documenting cases of torture and mistreatment of Palestinian detainees in Israel.

The charges against the Israeli regime come in a 61-page report, due for release later this month and compiled by the Public Committee against Torture in Israel and Physicians for Human Rights, AFP reported on Thursday.

Some 100 detainees held as prisoners since 2007 will be included in the report.

“This report reveals significant evidence arousing the suspicion that many doctors ignore the complaint of their patients; allow Shin Bet security service interrogators to use torture; approve the use of forbidden interrogation methods and the ill-treatment of helpless detainees; and conceal information, thereby allowing total immunity for the tortures,” the two rights groups said in a statement.

Beating, sleep deprivation and threats are among the mistreatments reportedly outlined in the upcoming rights report.

The report states that there have been numerous cases in which detainees reported physical abuse, but that legal action could not be taken since no medical reports detailing the abuse incidents were ever prepared.

Moreover, the report charges that Israeli medical doctors returned the detainees to interrogators after treating injuries inflicted on the detainees through physical abuse by interrogation officers.

There are currently some 6,530 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons.

According to Palestinian Authority’s Ministry of Detainees, nearly 200 Palestinian inmates have so far died in Israeli confinement either under torture or due to medical negligence.
