Al-Azhar to announce “al-Quds Document” sunday

CAIRO, (PIC)– A statement by Al-Azhar said that Dr. Ahmad al-Tayyeb, the Grand Sheikh of al-Azhar, will announce on Sunday “The Quds Document” which has been coordinated with the popular campaign against Judaization of Jerusalem.

Sources at al-Azhar informed PIC that the Grand Sheikh of al-Azhar issued a directive to draft a document on Jerusalem that can be agreed amongst leading figures amongst Muslims and Christians and call all parties to sign it.

Sources in the popular campaign against Judaization of Jerusalem said that there was coordination with different parties and a number of artists and sports people to organise a mega march for Jerusalem on 25 November.

The sources told PIC correspondent that the campaign coordinated with the Azhar the activation of the issue of Jerusalem and that the campaign agreed with Dr. Ahmad al-Tayyeb a number of steps such as the Jerusalem Document, which was drafted by the Dr. Muhammad Amarah and which the Grand Sheikh of al-Azhar will seek to get signed by various groups.

The sources also said that the campaign coordinated with the Muslim Brotherhood, Salfi groups and a number of influential parties to participate in the mega march on 25 November.

They said that the organisers will hold a conference on Sunday at Dar al-Hekma to be attended by all participating groups to announce the mega march and the rest of activities of the campaign.

Israel’s Jerusalem municipality plans to build more than 50,000 new homes in the city’s occupied eastern sector over two decades:

  • 23,628 homes have already been approved, 20,263 in East Jerusalem and 3,365 in the west.
  • 13,824 are pending review, 12,819 in East Jerusalem and 1,005 in the west.
  • 23,266 housing units are still in planning stages, 19,281 in the east and 3,985 in the west.



Of these, the municipality plans:

  • 10,366 homes in northern East Jerusalem, including illegal Israeli settlement Pisgat Zeev and Palestinian town Beit Hanina.
  • 5,239 homes in southern East Jerusalem, including Gilo settlement and Palestinian district Beit Safafa.
  • 4,886 new units in central eastern Palestinian neighborhood of Silwan and Jerusalem’s Old City.
