NAZARETH, (PIC)– Two Israeli Knesset members introduced a bill calling for declaring occupied Jerusalem to be the capital of Israel and the Jewish people and considering this decision irreversible.

The Hebrew radio said MPs Arieh Eldad from the block of the national union and Zebulon Orlev from the bloc of the Jewish home tabled this draft law on the status of Jerusalem for discussion in the Knesset.

Orlev claimed that Jerusalem had never been the capital of another people and criticized the government of Benjamin Netanyahu for allowing what he called as foreign parties to interfere in the city.

The Knesset on Wednesday decided to postpone the vote on the bill, but the Israeli media did not say if another date was set in this regard.

Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu had ordered to delay the demolition of Al-Magariba Gate bridge leading to the Aqsa Mosque least this could provoke a wave of massive popular anger in the Arab world against Israel.

Netanyahu on Monday told the Knesset committee on foreign affairs and security that he issued orders to hold up the demolition of Al-Magariba Gate bridge because of the sensitive situation in the Arab region for the meantime.

Netanyahu’s decision was taken following massive marches in Egypt and Jordan in protest of Israel’s intention to raze the bridge in Jerusalem.
