GAZA, (PIC)– Hamas spokesman, Fawzi Barhoum, affirmed his movement’s rejection of the International Quartet’s conditions, pointing out that the government that will be formed as a result of the reconciliation agreement will be a national unity government.

In statements quoted by the “Falastin” newspaper on Friday, Barhoum stressed that to accept the Quartet’s conditions is equivalent to eradicating Palestinian fundamentals and will mean giving up Palestinian rights and their right to resist occupation.

He was commenting on reports by some media outlets quoting PA President Mahmoud Abbas as saying that the national unity government will accept the Quartet’s conditions. Barhoum rejected this and said the Quartet’s conditions give legitimacy to occupation and encourages it to continue with its aggression against the Palestinian people with impunity.

He added that Hamas wanted a national unity government, not a factional government.

Barhoum stressed that Abbas’s talk about the government programme is premature and pre-emptive as any future government will belong to all.

Commenting on the news about the new proposal made by the PA for a final peace settlement, Barhoum said that the PA’s acceptance to an exchange of land is an endorsement by the PA for the Jewish nature of the Zionist entity.

He warned that the Zionist entity aims to have 1948-occupied Palestine ethnically cleansed of all Palestinians living there and that Mahmoud Abbas and other PA officials should not fall in such a trap.

“ Abu Mazen [Abbas] should not get himself onto such a slippery slope, as the Jewishness of the entity will give it licence to uproot Palestinians from their land,” Barhoum said, stressing that his movement wants a fully soverign Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital without the uprooting of 1948-Palestinians from their land.
