GAZA, (PIC)– First deputy speaker of the Palestinian legislative council Ahmed Baher called on the Palestinian rivals meeting in Cairo to swiftly reach an agreement enabling the Palestinian parliament to resume its sessions in the West Bank.

“According to the provisions of the Palestinian basic law, the speaker of the legislative council Dr. Aziz Dweik is entitled to convene the council as stipulated in articles 1, 2 and 16 of the legislative council’s internal regulation,” Baher said in a press release on Tuesday.

He stressed that the persistence in disabling the mission of this council in the West Bank under the difficult circumstances being faced by the Palestinians in the occupied territories are detrimental to the higher national interest and provide a free service for the occupation.

“It is impossible to talk about a genuine reconciliation as speaker of the legislative council Dr. Aziz Dweik and the lawmakers from the change and reform parliamentary bloc are still prevented from entering the headquarters of the council in the West Bank,” the deputy speaker stated.

In this context, senior Hamas official Ismail Radwan said the Palestinian factions , which have parliamentary blocs, would meet Wednesday morning to discuss exclusively the issue of activating the work of the legislative council in the West Bank.
