Palestinian activists have staged a protest rally against Israeli settlers’ plan to evict dozens of Palestinians from their homes in East al-Quds (Jerusalem).

The rally, arranged by several organizations, was held in Palestinian neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah on Friday.

The angry activists said they would not accept any more house evictions in the Palestinian lands.

“This demonstration is especially for this reason and in general for all the latest attacks from settlers in the West Bank and Jerusalem and there escalating in settlement our message is clear we will never be quiet for more house eviction in Sheikh Jarrah,” said peace activist Suhair Asaad.

Settlers claim plots of land in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood were owned by Jews before creation of Israeli regime in 1948. They’ve already won property rights to six Palestinian homes, whose residents have been evicted.

Meanwhile, the UK has voiced anger over what it calls Israel’s provocative and deeply counter-productive plans to build more settler units in East al-Quds.

Tel Aviv plans to build over 100 settler units in Gilo and Israeli tourism centers in the Silwan neighborhood.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) that provides aid for Palestinian refugees says Israeli forces have demolished 356 structures in the first six months of 2011, compared to the 431 destroyed throughout 2010.

In October, Israeli bulldozers demolished a house in the village of Beit Khalil northwest of the West Bank city of al-Khalil (Hebron). The Palestinian whose house was bulldozed said Israeli troops attacked and beat up his family members before bringing down the building.
