Israeli Knesset (parliament) recently passed a legislation which declares al-Quds (Jerusalem) “the united capital of the Jewish people and Israel.”
An Iranian lawmaker has called for a serious UN reaction to the recent Israeli bill that describes al-Quds (Jerusalem) as “the united capital of the Jewish people as well as Israel.”

Parviz Sorouri, a member of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, said on Tuesday that the latest move by the Israeli regime points to the scope of double standards prevalent in the world.

“The Zionist regime (of Israel) issues a ruling on [al-]Quds, which belongs to all divine faiths, and confiscates it irrespective of all UN resolutions and international regulations, while no international and legal authority raises any objections,” Sorouri argued.

The Iranian legislator also warned that the latest Israeli legislation prepares the ground for further tensions and crisis in the Middle East region, stressing that the United Nations is obligated to act decisively and strongly against the move.

Sorouri stated that declaration of al-Quds as the “united capital of the Jewish people and Israel” should have been greeted with an Arab outrage. However, the Arab League chose to keep silent on the case, displaying no sensitivity on the issue.

Meanwhile, the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) – an association of 57 member states formed in 1969 to promote Muslim solidarity in economic, social, and political affairs – has yet to hold an emergency meeting to censure the recent Israeli attempt to Judaize al-Quds, the Iranian lawmaker stated.

While US-led Western countries, which portray themselves as committed to international and UN resolutions, were expected to denounce the Israeli move, actually agreed to the declaration.

Such an aggressive attitude requires a decisive reaction from Muslim nations, noted Sorouri.

Israeli authorities must realize that such efforts will prove ineffective and that they can never hijack al-Quds. They should rather be alarmed that such moves would put regional peace and stability at risk and provoke outrage in Muslim nations, the Iranian lawmaker emphasized.
