Fayyad forms committee to investigate Jaba crash

RAMALLAH (Ma’an) — PA Prime Minister Salam Fayyad said Sunday that a committee will be formed to investigate a car crash which killed five schoolchildren and their teacher last week.

The committee will be headed by the PA foreign minister and members will include the minister of health, minister of education, minister of local governance, minister of public works and housing, and the president of the Palestinian Red Crescent.

The committee will issue its findings within two weeks, Fayyad said in a statement.

The children were traveling from Shufat refugee camp in north Jerusalem for a school trip near Ramallah, when their vehicle was hit by a truck and overturned, bursting into flames, near the Jaba checkpoint last Thursday.

Six died, and another 39 were injured, several of them seriously.
