Legislation to Allow Settlers to Take Over West Bank Land

WAFA FEBR 20 2012

JERUSALEM, February 20, 2012 (WAFA) – The Israeli Civil Administration in the West Bank, which is part of the military government, is promoting legislation that would allow Jewish settlers to open new dirt roads in the West Bank without official approval under the pretext of protecting so-called state land, the Israeli daily, Haaretz, reported Monday.

It said that if the legislation is approved, it would substantially expand settlers’ ability to take control of more land in the West Bank and will give them access to considerable state land that surrounds settlements, thus effectively keeping Palestinians off that land.

Haaretz had published a report on Sunday revealing that settlers took over hundreds of dunums of Palestinian-owned land in area B, classified in the Oslo Accords at administered by the Palestinian Authority but remains under Israeli military control, which is a violation of the Oslo agreements.

The newspaper said settlers built roads on private Palestinian land and took over property in area B while the owners were banned from reaching their land under security pretexts.
