Newspapers Review: Dailies Highlight Adnan’s Hearing, Israeli Version of Talks

RAMALLAH, February 21, 2012 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies highlighted in their Tuesday issue hunger-striker Khader Adnan’s High Court hearing and leaks by Israeli officials about the Amman talks.

Al-Ayyam front page story highlighted warnings by lawmaker Ahmad Tibi, member of the Israeli parliament, of the fast deteriorating condition of Adnan’s health, saying: “Adnan might die at any minute.”

The paper also focused on the demonstrations and campaigns being held across the Palestinian territory in solidarity with Adnan’s cause.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported on Israel’s High Court’s decision to address Adnan’s appeal on Tuesday instead of Thursday, as scheduled previously.

Al-Quds featured leaks by Israeli official about the talks held in Amman.

The three dailies printed photos of Palestinians participating in demonstrations across the West Bank in solidarity with Adnan.

Al-Ayyam reported on President Mahmoud Abbas receiving a number of Hamas officials in Ramallah, stressing the need to speed up the reconciliation process.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Quds featured Abbas’ upcoming Arab tour starting Wednesday, which will include Egypt and Qatar.

The three papers reported on the Israeli Civil Administration in the West Bank pushing for a legislation that would allow Jewish settlers to build new dirt roads in the West Bank without official approval under the pretext of protecting so-called “state land”.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida printed a photo of a man taking a picture of anti-Christianity slogans which were sprayed by extremist Jews on the walls of the Baptist Church in Jerusalem.

Al-Quds editorial discussed the power crisis in the Gaza Strip and it impact on daily life of people and institutions. It called on Hamas to resolve this issue.
