Palestinian Officials Condemn Israeli Leaks of Amman Talks

WAFA FEB 21 2012

JERICHO, February 21, 2012 (WAFA) – PLO Executive Committee member Saeb Erekat Tuesday condemned leaks by Israeli officials of the Palestinian-Israeli exploratory talks recently held in Jordan.

He said in a statement that he wrote members of the Quartet, which is composed of the United States, European Union, United Nations and Russia, condemning the Israeli leaks that violate the pledge of confidentiality regarding the talks.

He described the leaks as “half-truths” released as a public relations stunt.

The Israeli daily Haaretz reported Sunday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu proposed pulling out of 90% of the area of the West Bank, which was not much different from what former Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni had presented during the Annapolis Conference in 2007.

Erekat rejected claims that President Mahmoud Abbas was responsible for the failure of the talks, stressing that their failure was due to Israeli persistence to build settlements and dictate the course of the negotiations.

Another PLO Executive Committee member also denied in an interview on Voice of Palestine radio what came in the Israeli leaks

PLO secretary Yasser Abed Rabbo described these reports as lies and out of context.

He said they were part of an Israeli scheme to deceive world opinion.
