GAZA, (PIC)– The Hamas Movement’s department of refugee affairs called for removing Filippo Grandi from his post as the commissioner-general of the UNRWA after he announced that the agency would shrink important relief services in the impoverished Gaza Strip.

The Hamas department of refugee affairs said Grandi miserably failed to fulfill his duties as the head of the UNRWA, and his performance was poor and proved his incompetence to run the agency properly.

It demanded the UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon to dismiss him from his position or not to renew his presidency of the UNRWA for another year.

Grandi stated in a recent press release that the UNRWA would terminate its financial aid for poor Gazan families, its program to create job opportunities, and its evening medical services as well as it would reduce all other health services by half in Gaza.

Hamas questioned Grandi’s claims that these cutbacks in services resulted from the failure of donor countries to fulfill their financial obligations towards the agency, and warned that the UNRWA’s services would keep shrinking unless appropriate solutions were developed to prevent further deterioration in the future.

It stressed that the UNRWA should not be in the pocket of the donor countries or allow them to blackmail it or else it would be derelict in its international duties.
