AL-KHALIL, (PIC)– Three organisations organised a rally on Thursday at the Ibn Rushd Square in the southern West Bank city of al-Khalil to protest political detention and political sackings.

Demonstrators called for the immediate release of political detainees and a halt of the policy of political sacking.

Dozens of detainees’ relatives and victims of political sackings as well as human rights activists participated in the rally which witnessed a good media presence. Even school children participated in the rally to show support for political detainees.

The participants also carried placards expressing concern and support for the Aqsa Mosque as well as Khader Adnan who went on a long hunger strike to protest administrative detention without charge or trial by the Israeli occupation.

They also rejected the PA security coordination with the Israeli occupation and the exchange of roles between the Israeli occupation forces and the PA security agencies in the detention of Palestinian activists.

A statement on behalf of the detainees’ families said that after the signing of the Doha agreement there were more than 24 new political detentions and 50 more summonses issued to activists, a teacher was sacked in Nablus and an Awkaf employee had his salary stopped in Qalqilya. This is in addition to the detention of Shadi Odeh, who was liberated from occupation jails in the exchange deal between Hamas and the Israeli occupation.
