RAMALLAH, February 26, 2012 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies Sunday focused on the violent confrontations erupted between Palestinian mourners and Israeli soldiers in the northern Jerusalem town of al-Ram following the funeral of Palestinian killed by soldiers.
Al-Ayyam dedicated most of its front page to report on 12 injuries among Palestinians after the funeral of Talat Ramiyeh, 25, a protester who was shot and killed by Israeli soldiers during demonstrations on the outskirts of al-Ram on Friday.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida printed pictures of Palestinians throwing stones at Israeli soldiers in the clashes.
Al-Quds exclusively highlighted Hamas’ vision of the interim government that will be headed by President Mahmoud Abbas, according to Palestinian sources, which preferred to remain unknown.
While the daily’s prime headline quoted the sources saying Hamas requested to name the deputy prime minister and to name 51% of the new government’s ministers, the news article quoted Hamas leader Mahmoud al-Zahar denying the reports and stressing that Hamas delegation to the reconciliation talks did not discuss the formation of the new government.
The three dailies reported on Abbas’ visit to Qatar, featuring his meeting with Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, as well as Abbas’ meeting with former Palestinian prisoners who were released in Syria as part of the Gilad Shalit swap deal between Israel and Hamas in 2011.
Al-Quds editorial tackled the Israeli intentional provocative policy in attempt to draw the Palestinians into a cycle of violence and called on Israel to end its occupation to avoid creating a more critical situation in the region.
