Newspapers Review: Dailies Highlight West Bank Railway Plan

WAFA FEB 28 2012

RAMALLAH, February 28, 2012 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies Tuesday highlighted a new Israeli plan to build 11 railways through the West Bank for settlers use.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Quds front page stories featured the new Israeli plan to build a 475-kilometer railway network in the West Bank, which, they said, reveals Israel’s lack of interest in the two-state solution.

Al-Ayyam reported on the adoption of the call by the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, to take the Jerusalem issue to the United Nations Security Council.

It focused on statements by the president of the 66th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Nassir Abdulaziz, that “Israeli settlements in the West Bank are a foreign occupation that is not compatible with democracy.”

Al-Quds featured Prime Minister Salam Fayyad expressing disappointment over postponement of the formation of a national unity government.

The dailies printed photos of Palestinians protesting in solidarity with the prisoner Hana Shalabi who has been on a hunger strike for 13 days in a row.
