Israel has launched unprovoked major military attacks on Gaza killing 17 people, including a prominent Palestinian leader, and igniting a retaliation of rocket fire from the Palestinian side.

Press TV has interviewed Derek Graham, human rights activist in Gaza about the latest attacks by Israel and the response by the Palestinians, which has raised fears of a further escalation of tensions in the region. What follows is an approximate transcript of the interview.

Press TV: More people are being killed and injured and more of the same response from the international community, which we saw during the onslaught in Gaza, which led to the killing of almost 1,500 Palestinians and injuring thousands of others. Why wouldn’t the Israelis attack and kill when Western reporters along with the UN basically do nothing to stop them?

Graham: You have the world media sit idly by day after day and they don’t report on the situation; you have the global governments, they also sit idly by and refuse to condemn the actions of the Israelis and they also refuse to punish the Israelis for these actions.

They are complete violation of human rights; the Geneva Convention and many other UN resolutions, but nobody will try and stop them. It is a ridiculous situation.

Press TV: First we saw the crippling siege in Gaza, then we saw the war; and then there was the Israeli attack on the Gaza flotilla killing activists and of course all the while the Israelis have continued to choke the Gaza strip of supplies and basic necessities.

Where are the no fly zones? Where the declarations by the UN or the US that innocent people are need to be protected and sending in their troops? What will it take for us to see this type of international reaction when it comes to Israel?

Graham: I think if the Palestinians get statehood I think that would make their case a little bit stronger. I would agree with your second analyst guest that Israel are waiting to see the reaction from Egypt, but not only Egypt; I think Tunisia, Algeria, Libya – I think they want to test the waters with these countries as well.

As to how the Palestinians can move forward it’s very hard. They are in a very difficult position. The Palestinians in Gaza particularly are struggling because at the moment we have lack of fuel; we have lack of basic needs and the international community have done nothing about it.

The fuel crisis has been going on for nearly two weeks in Gaza and the international community hasn’t said anything about it and it’s ridiculous the way the situation is here, people are suffering and the world just stands by idly.

I think that unless the media start to focus on Gaza and on the Palestinians, I don’t think the wider community will realize what’s happening. So, I think it’s up to the media to start focusing on Gaza.

Press TV: You are sitting in Gaza. Do you see that the Palestinians have any other choice at this point in time but resistance, when the regime responds to them in the way that it does?

Graham: I don’t think they actually have any other response left to them at this stage. They have called on the international community to aid them; they have called on everybody for aid and nobody has helped them. So, yes I think this is the only response that they have.

Everything was quiet here for a long time and it was only yesterday when Israel struck first that the rockets started flying into Israel. I mean, what do you want the Palestinians to do… just sit by idly?

You have to realize – and sadly – that Israel uses Gaza as a training ground. That’s what the Israelis are using it as – they’re using Gaza as a training ground when they think they have something major upcoming like they’re testing the waters now for an attack in Iran. They use Gaza to test their rockets; they use Gaza to test their infantries; their ground troops… and this is what they’re doing.

Press TV: You talk about things had been quite for a while and all of a sudden they attack. What type of affect does this have? – We know that the majority of residence in Gaza is actually children.

What type of affect is this having on them besides the physical problems that they’re suffering from being wounded and sometimes killed, but psychologically, when at any time an entity such as Israel can go into the Gaza strip any time they want and basically send missiles or bombs or attack then in any way?

Graham: For children it is so stressful. You have constant hummer drones over your head; you can see F16s in the air – they are normally trying to break the sound barrier to create sonic booms; and then we have the missiles that they’re firing.

Even last night, we were in bed, the house was shaking from a lot of the explosions that were around us. Can you imagine the children and women… this is crazy what is happening. These children are living through it day after day after day and a lot of these children will have to get up for school in the morning and try and continue on and go to school.

It’s impossible to, say, go to school and try and get a good education if you haven’t got a good night’s sleep the night before. The children are the ones that are really suffering here and there’s no mention of this.

If it happened in any other country in the world, you would see that there would be complete condemnation of it, but you haven’t heard one western government come out yet and condemn what Israel are doing.

Israel is not looking for Peace

Martyred By Israeli Occupation Attacks

انّا للہ و انّا الیه راجعون

May Allah Subhana wa Ta’ ala grant the Shuhada Jannatul Firdaus, and ease it for their families, loved ones and anyone around them. Allahumma Ameen ya Rabbil Alameen. ‘ Inna Lillahi wa ‘ Inna ‘ Ilayhi Raji’un, Allahu Akbar

* The list of shuhada does not display, the numerous victims of the zionist occupation which are undocumented by media. Nor it displays the victims of the “silent onslaught” due to restrictions of movement, ability to go to hospitals for treatment or life saving surgery, due to lack of medication because of the blockades and so on. For example: The Slow Motion Genocide by the Siege on Gaza only, killed 600 patients since Gaza got under Israeli Siege.

For an overview of All Israeli Massacres Palestinians go here

Neither does this list, display the avoidable mortality. A clear and statistical factual evidence, about the number of deaths due to indecent ruling by occupation forces. For even an occupier has obligations under International Laws, Geneva Convention and the Hague regulations, which it is neglecting. These circumstances, together with deliberate policies of the occupier to neglect and even deny every basic human right, severes avoidable mortality which is totally silenced by media or reporting organisations. While in the Holocaust, 1 on 6 Jewish people directly died of deliberate neglect, so if we believe the facts over 1 million due to avoidable mortality, neither should these same circumstances be ignores which are ongoing in Palestine. For this report displays a avoidable morality of at least 0,5 million Palestinians.

How many more dead corpses of Palestinians does the international community need to see in order to act? How many more cruelties and violations of Human Rights, Regulations and International Law will be needed to intervene so this ongoing warcrime is being stopped once and for all.
