AL-KHALIL, (PIC)– Political detainees in the Palestinian Authority jail in Jericho are threatening to go on hunger strike if court orders for their release were not carried out.
Relatives of those detainees told MP Mustafa Al-Barghouthi in a meeting with him on Wednesday night in Al-Khalil that their next of kin would go on an open hunger strike if the court verdicts were not carried out.
Relatives of the detainees, who included MP Basem Al-Za’areer, told Barghouthi, in his capacity as member of the freedoms committee, that they would go on marches and stage sit-ins if their demands were not met.
Barghouthi told the relatives that he would convey their position to PA chief Mahmoud Abbas, hoping that a breakthrough would be achieved soon.
Six Palestinians from Al-Khalil have been held in Jericho jail for almost two years.
