OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)– The Jerusalem committee against the wall and settlement said there is a network of tunnels under the foundations of the Aqsa Mosque and the Old City of Jerusalem.
The committee said it entered the tunnels on Thursday after the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) opened the tunnel that is adjacent to Sultan Suleiman Cave before the public.
It added that it made its field tour inside the tunnels along with senior Jerusalemite officials from the general secretariat of Jerusalem families, the defense committee of Jerusalem merchants, and Silwan defense committee.
The committee added that the tunnel they entered forks into three main passages, one tunnel leads to the Muslim cemetery of Mamanullah, another to the Aqsa Mosque, and the third extends under Souk Al-Qattanin to Ein Silwan area.
For his part, head of the general secretariat of Jerusalem families Abdullah Alqam said the Israeli antiquities authority uses chemicals to dissolve the rocks and speed the digging process which led to the erosion of the foundations and walls of the Aqsa Mosque.
