NABLUS, (PIC)– The Israeli higher court turned down an appeal by lawyer of MP Ahmed Al-Haj Ali to end his administrative detention, without trial or charge, at the pretext of having secret charges against him.

The Tadamun foundation for human rights said in a statement on Wednesday that the court refused the appeal on Tuesday despite knowing that the 72-year-old detainee was on hunger strike for the 8th day running.

The MP told the Tadamun lawyer that he was adamant on maintaining his hunger strike until his release.

The lawyer quoted Ali as telling the presiding judge that his only crime was that he was elected by the Palestinian people to serve them at the legislative council.

Ali told the judge, “Your people claim that they were oppressed at the hands of the Nazis (in the past), but today you are doing the same to the Palestinian people”.

The MP suffers weakness in both senses of hearing and taste in addition to urinary tract and prostate problems and sinuses. Ali was arrested from his Nablus home in June last year and sentenced to six months administrative detention that was renewed for four more months.
