Nafha prisoners go on hunger strike

RAMALLAH, (PIC)– Palestinian prisoners in the Israeli desert prison Nafha have gone on hunger strike on Thursday to protest the Israeli policy of banning family visits for the past six years.

A message by those prisoners to Nasha’at Al-Wahidi, the coordinator of popular movement for the support of prisoners and Palestinian rights, said that they would also go on hunger strike on Saturday in solidarity with detainee Hana’a Shalabi, who has been on hunger strike for 36 days.

The prisoners served an ultimatum that the escalation of their protest steps was approaching against the Israeli racist policies, and called for official and popular support.

They said that the Israeli prison authority was escalating its repressive measures against them: denying them family visits for six years, holding them in solitary confinement, depriving them of proper medical treatment and education, isolating them from the outside world, persisting in strip searches and night raids on their cells, assaulting them and damaging their belongings, imposing heavy fines on them, and depriving them of their simplest rights according to the international law.
