GAZA, (PIC)– Hamas movement on Tuesday denied Israeli press reports that Gaza premier Ismail Haneyya was chosen as the movement’s political leader in the enclave.

A responsible source in Hamas, who wished to remain anonymous, told the PIC in a terse statement that what the Hebrew daily Ha’aretz published was not true.

He said that the Hebrew media were trying to lure the movement into revealing its leadership, adding that Hamas had affirmed separation between the movement and the government in Gaza.

Ha’aretz said that Hamas recently made “secret” elections and chose Haneyya as leader of the movement in Gaza to succeed Dr. Abdul Aziz Al-Rantisi, who was assassinated by Israel in 2004.
